Parenting courses

Parenting

Parenting is a demanding and difficult job, and not everyone has a supportive wider family around them to help when the going is tough.

The early years workers at the Mission recognise this, and have been running parenting courses since 1999 to help parents gain new knowledge and skills to help them care for their children during these important early years.

‘From Pram to Primary School’

(0-6years) - Family Caring Trust Course

This is an 8 week course. It consists of the following sessions: introduction, unwanted behaviour, encouraging children, listening to children, talking to children, discipline, quality time and an eighth optional session on children’s spiritual development. The course is usually run at the same time as ‘Bouncers’ baby and toddler group (Tuesday mornings), with the children being cared for by crèche workers in the ‘Bouncers’ session.

Who can attend?

The courses are open to any local families with young children. A strong commitment to attending regularly and to practice new skills between sessions are encouraged to help the group work well.

Parenting Support Group

This is a monthly group open to anyone who has attended a parenting course at the Mission and who wants to brush up on topics previously covered, or raise other topics of concern. Parents are welcome to attend as often or as little as they think helpful.
